the humAIne project

The humAIne project is a set of Open Educational Resources that help community groups talk about and make responsible use of artificial intelligence. Professor Anna Feigenbaum of the University of Glasgow leads the work (a collaboration across several UK universities), supported by a Google Academic Research Award.

Resources take on more meaning when they are shaped by the words of the communities they’re made for. Working from focus group interview transcripts, the project’s research team coded and mapped statements to emotions. Then, we created a motion graphic system that turns those conversations into short type-led films built around a glossary of AI terms.

Our design language expresses emotion through colour, type, and movement; participants see their feelings about the technology embedded within the work they helped to create. The system is built to adapt across forthcoming digital, print, and screen-based outcomes, giving the project a coherent look that extends as the resources grow.
