Data Storytelling

Professor Anna Feigenbaum is an author, educator, and researcher working across data storytelling, public health, and social media studies. Anna wanted to bring emerging, cross-disciplinary methods to students, researchers, and practitioners in a practical form they could use, turning dense academic material into interactive training for teaching, independent study, and professional development. We worked on three related publications: The Data Storytelling Workbook, The Social Media Methods Workbook, and a short guide, Social Media Storytelling: Pick N Mix.

For the two workbooks, we created a unique visual style drawn from data visualisation and infographics, so the design models the clear, evidence-based communication it teaches. Illustrated section openers abstract each key idea into one image that anchors readers before the detail, legible layouts keep material approachable, and built-in worksheets and contributor spotlights turn reading into practice.

For the Pick N Mix guide, we helped Anna conceptualise an interactive format and designed pictograms for its three steps: readers choose pick, mix, and optimise sheets printed on transparent trace paper, then overlay them to build a composite picture of their own approach.

Together, the publications work as teaching and professional-development tools. A shared visual identity ties Anna’s work together and signals a consistent, credible voice across a field she is helping to define.
